My good blog buddy, Buck Pennington, has left this plane of existence (he being a retired United States Air Force guy, that phrasing is apt.)
Please go to his blog and say something to his sons, of whom he was very proud (and with good reason.)
I'm going to repeat part of what I wrote over there:
"Although I never had the pleasure of physically being with [Buck], I considered him a very good friend. We've been visiting each other's blogs for five or six years, I would guess, and we seemed to share quite a few opinions (and those we didn't share, we either kept to ourselves or were kind to the other about.)"
I guess that's pretty much the essence of what a good blog friendship - or, really, any friendship - should be.
I'll miss hearing from him. He was a truly nice man. I'll leave the link to his blog on the sidebar (with slight modification to the wording) as there's a lot of good stuff over there that people shouldn't miss.
With the saints give rest, O Christ, to the soul of Buck. Please allow him peace where there is neither sickness nor sorrow nor sighing, but life everlasting. Amen.

And he was a good friend. We didn't see eye-to-eye on everything (what would be the fun of that?) (I mean, heck, the man was a Notre Dame fan. . .), but there was always mutual respect and esteem.
The world feels like a poorer place without him. . .
aw, i am so very sorry for his family's loss, world in general and the blog world have lost a gentleman .. a sad time ... may he rest in peace

So sorry to hear of his passing. For some reason, the holiday season seems to have a lot of losses (i have gone to two funerals already and have a 3rd on Monday).
It seems that he enjoyed a long and worthwhile life, a successful career that he loved, and a family who loved him. What more could you want? RIP Buck.

I'm so sorry, Jim. It's amazing how friendships develop, sight unseen, in this blog world, isn't it? I'll keep his family in my prayers.
It is very difficult to lose someone, and especially at this time of year. My heart goes out to the family. You have a very nice blog. Warm greetings and Merry Christmas from Montreal, Canada.
It's always sad when a good Blogging Buddy is no longer with us. Buck will be missed by all who visited his blog.
I'm also losing another of my *friends* to cancer and although I never met her, I felt I knew a good deal about her and had corresponded for years.

I am so sorry to hear of Buck's passing. It is always a painful thing, but especially so during this time of the year. My prayers for his family, and for us. He will be missed, and thought of often.
Nicely said. I miss him like crazy -- this Blog Buddy thing is pretty potent stuff. May he rest in the arms of The Deity at Hand. And I hope the boys do post now and again -- they seem to have his style.
