SUNDAY
When last you left me (or I left you; it was probably my fault) we had swum, eaten and rocked.
(I wasn't sure about "swum", but spellcheck didn't say anything, so I'm going with it.)
(Oddly enough, spellcheck has a problem with "spellcheck". For some reason, that makes me happy.)
Prior to leaving you then, I left you before. At that time, I had not told you why the gap-toothed boy was wearing a number. Today, you will find out the reason; right now, as a matter of fact.
He was in a road race.
(Anti-climax is my middle name and I'm pissed at my parents.)
Most of you guessed he was in a race, so it's not much of a surprise. The surprise comes from how well he did. I'll give you that result in just a bit, but first here are some more photos of him (as well as of his aunt and his grandmother - guess which is which!)

I'm proud of them as well, especially Darian! Impressed? Hell yea! The moment he wakes up til he goes to bed, constantly running. So full of energy. Next year, I'll be joining them. I'm not a runner by any means, used to a competitive swimmer on the high school swim team. I hope I can keep up with Darian!
Well, you certainly personalized the experience for us all. That kid has such a warm smile winning the race of life will not be a problem.
The kid looks like a runner! What is it with the no arms pose? My Grandkids do the same.
1-17...totally unfair...his day will come.
Stopping at the stop signs...so funny! Probably something his Uncle only does if someone is watching!
So the poor kid hasn't figured out what to do with his hands when his picture is being taken, unlike Ava.
I also noticed there was a family... at least It appears to be a family ...who finished almost together at the bottom of the list.
The boy just couldn't quite wait for the others.
Most excellent wrap-up and good on young Darian. Good on Grandma and Ava, too.
We have personal experience with younger/older nephew and aunt thing. My two step-sisters from my father's third marriage are exactly one year apart from my two oldest boys... they're stair-steps, that go SN1, Sister 1, SN2, Sister 2. And yeah, they have fun with that. Almost as much fun as the boys have with SN3, who's 31 years younger than my oldest.
Totally Awesome!!! We run 5ks with the kids often (usually at least once a month.. it's the trick or trot this month) and we ALWAYS get separated. ALWAYS. The good news, most people look out for the kids... make sure they are hitting the water stations, find their parents, etc. So it's really very safe. And yes, the age division sucks. We like the ones that are 1-10 and then 10-17 or at least 1-15. How does anyone expect a 7 year old to compete with a 15 year old??? Either way, he did AMAZING!!!
Yeah, they definitely should have done something about those divisions. So totally unfair to the young kids. Heck, if I was a 17-year-old in the race I would have been upset in being grouped with younger kids. Yet nobody should lose sight of the real winners of the race at the Food Pantry.
Great story Suldog.
I too have a "no arms" photo from just a couple of years ago. Really freaked out a female friend of mine.
All it takes is a baggy top and you clasp your hands behind your back.
(And what are you supposed to do with your hands in a photo?)
It's nice to come back from my S-fest to such a wonderful story about your relatives. And these days, age, skin tone, etc., don't matter; if two people tell me they are related, there's no reason not to believe them. An amazing world, and your family is a grand part of it.
What an awesome family! One can't help but think Darian would have been at or near the top had he not let the others catch him up. And I just love the enthusiasm you have for your family!
Yay for Darian. I hope he was rewarded with something like tofu and veggies. ;) Yay for Ava, also and especially for Victoria who has instilled the kindness of charity in the kids and has engaged the family to work and play together for this event. Well told.
Great job! Sounds like a fun weekend.
Definitely sounds like a blast . . . and that first time, 28 minutes and change, is a hell of a fast "walk."
way to go, darian! that is indeed an impressive result. and i fully agree the age breakdown should be more akin to what you suggest.
This is the kind of weekend that I really wouldn't want to miss! Fun, fun, fun that's the way to relax and make the most of your day!
