The Next Sound You Hear Will Be That Of Me Blowing My Own Horn
Toot.
On Friday, I was published in The Boston Herald. So, I got an ego boost. More important, though, is that what was published was my editorial concerning Thanksgiving being given full play before Christmas is shoved down our collective throats.
Read it HERE. Then go thou and do likewise.
Seriously. Maybe you won’t have an editorial published (unless you try for it, as I did, because some of you certainly have the talent) but you could consider sending off a letter to the editor. I’m willing to bet that your local newspapers will not be averse to running a concise and polite plea for having Thanksgiving come first.
If you need more inspiration, here are some writings by good folk who have joined the fray since my previous update.
I’ll lead off with my swell pal, Cricket. His piece is perfect. I mean that. Nothing I have ever read on the subject of Thanksgiving has captured the spirit of the holiday so fully and with such love. I would appreciate you reading all of the entries here, as they were all written from the heart and all deserve attention, but if you only have time for one...
In order to make the rest of your journeys easier, I’ll lay off the excess verbiage (which, since you know me, you know that’s not an easy thing for me to do. I love to hear myself type.) I’m going to list the blogs where you’ll find the writings. Read one, please, then pop back here and hit another link for more reading enjoyment!

Those were the newer writings. Since it should pay to get the word out early, here again are all of those bloggers to whom I previously gave links. If you didn’t visit them then, please do so now.

And that will do it for today. Please keep writing, whether on your blogs or to other areas of possible publication. Even if nothing else is accomplished, the fight for what you believe in will leave you feeling marvelously clean, something the folks who blast us with ads and such in October and November will likely never feel.
Soon, with more better stuff.

Way to go. I knew some day you would team up with Howie Carr.
Yay, you. I'm glad you're getting your word out. :)
Next stop: Good Morning, America. I could see you on there, telling them about the cause.
Thanks, my swell pal. High praise, especially from the guy who inspired/encouraged me to tell a few stories of my own.
Equally inspring to see so many on board, old and new. Thanksgiving comes first!
Good for you, when you believe in something strongly it helps to have more people read about it. I hope some more people will "get it" and do the same.
I read the article you wrote last night....and I commented on it, but it never appeared.
I was so proud as I read it...proud of you and for you, my friend.
Thank you for the link to Cricket. I am taken away by his talent. Wonderful writing....absolutely wonderful.
Hugs and smiles to you, Jim.

Congratulations! You've always deserved a wider audience. :)
Oh, man, Sully. . . you've done it now. . . You know what happens to the nail that sticks up higher than the rest. . .
No, congratulations on getting yer op-ed published. I've had a couple of my own published, over the years, and it's just the least bit ego-gratifying to see yerself in print. Now you'll be fortunate indeed if you don't get your phone blown up by cranks for the next week. . .
;)
Just this weekend I told someone looking at holiday decorations that THANKSGIVING comes first! The response was HUH?
Congrats again on the article!! You deserve that toot :) Cricket's piece is beautiful, but yours is wonderful, too, and I'm not surprised it was published.
I read yer piece Saturday coz Skip linked it; yet another reason why you need to get off the dime and get yer home plugged in to these inter-tubes.
Nice work, that.
Congratulations on having your letter published! This is a movement that I could easily get behind. I'll give the newspaper here a whirl and see what happens. But I'm not the writer that you or Cricket are. Still, it will be fun to try.
Congrats! You are on a roll with this, and picking up steam with the article in The Boston Herald. Like Michelle, I wouldn't be surprised if you're on Good Morning America next.
Does GMA have Christmas decorations up in their studio already, I wonder? I never watch the show, but news shows that put up Christmas decorations before Thanksgiving could be your next target.
Hmmm. Why didn't I think of doing that? I've been known to have a few letters to the editor published over the past 23 years now so maybe I could just do this too! (My biggest problem though with those things is keeping my word count under 250 words though. Gee! Imagine that being a problem for a blogger like me, huh?
Congratulations, and i can try a letter to the editor, though i'm not sure how much good it would do. The only thing usually published around here are letters about football teams, or politicians.
Congrats... the only thing Ive ever had published was my Penthouse letter....

Congrats!!! That is super!!'

I am impressed... and proud.
From one Boston blogger to another and a loyal Herald reader, Bravo, well done.
WTG, and toot!
(My godmother used to tell me, "He that tooteth not his own horn gets tooted not." And she pre-dated Yoda by a long time.)
Yay! Congratulations.
You've really started something with your 'Thanksgiving comes first' rally (is that the correct word?). Good for you!
(I feel sort of proud actually.)
Will you still be talking/typing to us mere mortals?
X
Wow, WELL DONE Jim, I think you may have started a growing movement here - having it published outside of the blog can only add to the numbers of folk wishing to join with this sentiment! Who knows? This might actually really and truly work..
Toot away! You deserve it! How fabulous! Congratulations to you. I love the piece. Perfectly written, perfectly said! Well done!!!!
Off to read the other posts! :)
I could not be prouder of you if I tried! :)
Happy (almost!) Thanksgiving!
XO Tim, The Wench & The Winky, too!
Hearty congratulations!
