In Which I Retire...
... from playing softball.
(My softball friends are now laughing and saying, "Oh, no, not again...")
Yup.
If you want to laugh along with them, please go to the Boston Herald and read my retirement speech.
Why, look! Here's a handy link!
As always, thanks for reading (and thanks for not laughing in my face - although that would be a good thing for a purported humor writer, I suppose.)
Soon, with more better stuff.

....until next year, Jim. Well said! LOL
FYI - Ash Wednesday is on Valentines Day.
Shammickite - I really do intend to not play, but - as I said - I've done this before, so...
(not necessarily MY uncle) Skip - I think I need it to occur on Christmas in order to give me enough time to get in shape...
Your motto is never give up, and i don't blame you.
I retired from (slow pitch) softball this year as well. I just can't run anymore. I can still pitch and hit, just no more running. I get embarrassed every time I'd hit it and have to just jog to first. I feel like that arrogant kid who never runs, the kid I always hated playing against.
I've also made a career out of hitting line drives to right field for base hits. Hitting to right field and jogging first has turned into people trying to throw me out from the outfield. I didn't get nailed, yet, but it was coming. I decided to get out while I'm ahead (sorta).
You made it a lot longer than I did, I'm only 44. So congrats to you, until next year that is.
Man, Jim, if you can play even garbage innings at your age, God bless you. . .
I've played recreational slow-pitch, but anymore, I just can't run. And I've noticed that balls that used to sail over the outfielders' heads, they can run down now. But I suppose I could fill a not-too-demanding defensive spot at first base, or somesuch, if they don't make me bend over too much. . .
See you next year. . .
;)
