Bleh

So, as related yesterday, I gave up a chance to go to the Celtics - Cavaliers game. Instead, I chose to play softball.

The good news: My showing up for the softball game DID keep my team from having to forfeit. We had exactly 9 players to begin the game.

The bad news: I sucked. And we lost. I went 0-for-4 in a 22 - 6 catastrophe.

All in all, I kinda wish I had gone to the Celtics game.

The great thing about baseball/softball, though, is that a chance for redemption usually presents itself fairly soon. This Sunday (as the Celtics meet Orlando in the Eastern Conference Finals) the Bombers will open their regular season. And I absolutely guarantee I will not be as ridiculously hideous a batter as I was last night.

(Really, I was pitiful. It wasn't just that I didn't have a hit. It was the manner of the outs. Not a single ball left the infield. One weak pop up, two little dribbling grounders, and a soft liner - it could have been a hit - snagged by the first baseman going to his right. I honestly can't remember a game where I hit so poorly.)

All of that ephemera aside, I also received news yesterday that a relative faces a decision regarding serious surgery. I won't say who yet, as that person may not want it mentioned publicly, but it's someone dear to me. A kidney tumor is the problem. If you'd be kind enough to offer up a general prayer, I'd appreciate it. God will know who it is I'm talking about and direct your petition for grace where it needs to go. And I have no doubt that all will work out well, for all involved, in the end. That's the way God works. More info later, if and when I feel at liberty to relay it.

Not a good yesterday, overall, but better days are ahead, I'm sure, so I'll close with the usual...

Soon, with more better stuff.

Hey, hey, hey. King James is dead, thanks to your boys in green. Long live the king! And you will live to clear the infield another day. Candles lit in Texas, my friend. EFH

I'm sorry to hear about your relative, I hope everything turns out well.

As to your game? Everyone has a bad day now and then, even the mighty Jim Sullivan!

Relax, have fun, the hits will come.

Don't worry about the bad game. As you've told me countless times, "always look for the good in every situation." You'll bounce back.

Many prayers to your relative for the surgery. If you need a kidney... I think I have a spare.

If it makes you feel better, the Yankees completed a 1-3 visit to Detroit.

Sorry about the relative . . . I'll put in a good word with the Big Guy Upstairs.

The news about the relative kind of puts the rest of it in perspective.
The prayers are on the way.

My local had no news about ice hockey; the Giants got swept by the Padres; and it looks like fire season has started here already.

First; so sorry about your friend. Hope all turns out well!

Second: The Celtics won!!!!!!

Prayers going up. . .

On the bright side, if your going-to-the-game karma is anything like mine, you probably helped the Celtics win by staying away. . .

And my Tigers, having taken three out of four from the Yankees, get yer Red Sox over the weekend. . .

Sorry about yer bad game. Shit happens. You'll get 'em next time. . .

Well, you could always take your frustrations out on the nearest trash-can.

Prayer never hurts and often helps. I'll even enlist the little one for you. He'll pray for just about anyone and I think he's probably got more pull than me.

Recent quotation: "Bring me the stool. I need to get upper!"

Sorry I haven't been around, once more. My previous estimates of newfound free time were overly optimistic. Ugh. Well, soon enough.

Best wishes for happy outcomes all around.

It wasn't a bad game...
It was just four bad at bats in a row.
It's what you get for posting your stats before the season even started.
Ya know... karma?

I'm praying hard for your kin.

My best thoughts for your relative, Jim.

And sorry about the poor beginning to your season. But Hey! Get the bad bits out of the way now, save the good for the playoffs.

I just put that on the chain.

Perhaps you were distracted by concern for your dear one. No matter, as they say some days are diamonds and some days are stones.

I agree, better to start off a little slow and have a strong finish to your season.

Best thoughts to your relative with the wonky kidney.

I am grateful that you let us know about your relative's kidney tumor; we will be praying and praying.
I would want you on my team any day...one who would petition prayers as you have done is better than having the best day at the ball park.
Hugs,
Jackie

I wouldn't wish cancer on my worst enemy. My thoughts are with you...

Baseball (or softball, in your case) is eternal, and is, in my humble opinion, a damned good metaphor for day-to-day life. You had a bad game. It wasn't your day. But that's why we play the games, right? Tomorrow might totally BE your day.

Meanwhile, my prayers are with you and your family; standing by to activate the whole gang to the same work. Just say the word.

As I see it, the theme for this post should perhaps be "Never give up!" Prayers for your family member and keep in mind, many things can and are being done today that weren't available before. And with respect to the game -see, you helped avoid a forfeit and did it in a way that helped you get in some more needed practice batting perhaps. It's all good, ya know, in the end.

Hey, at least you showed up and made an effort. Some days are better than others...also, best of luck to your relative. I had one of those cancer scares a while back and it's never that fun of a decision to make.

Sending lots of positive thoughts towards your relative now.
Hope all goes well.

Have to say that I really prefer the baseball stories that prominently feature your behind

Prayers have been sent. My best friends went through that last year (she was only 36 at the time) and it was tough but she got through it due to positive vibes and tons of support. Sending hugs to you as well Jim!
