It would be called bullying today. To say I didn't like G_____ was a gross understatement.

One day, our gym class teamed up with the boys' class to 'learn to dance'. You guessed it --- G_____ was assigned to be my partner. I flatly refused...to the point that I was sent to the Principal's office, and my parents were called in, and the Social Services Agencies got involved as well.

I had NO IDEA what kind of brou-ha-ha this action of mine would cause, because his color was not an issue for me. I didn't want to dance with him because he was mean!!! But this was around 1964, and, needless to say, I was unfairly labeled a racist, and my parents were mortified.

But G_____ understood my reasoning when none of the adults did, and became my champion that day, standing up for me against the principal, and the Social Workers who were called in to "Quell the situation".

We became very good friends after that, and are friends still.

My Point? I really don't have one. What a cool friendship.

I grew up very poor but did not know about racial prejudice until I was a senior in high school and moved up to Berkeley CA. Finding myself in the middle of a riot at a drive in food place was scary. But I did not find anger within myself aimed at any group.

This is a true life circumstance and each of us have events to share on the subject of race.

I was a skinny little white kid who went to school with white, latino, asian, and black kids. I was so poor the kids who made fun of my horrible misfit clothes got a black eye for trying to hurt me.

I read Michelle's post and am blessed for having read it.CiCihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08615265608675467505noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15329973.post-90641095392534853432011-06-18T08:58:02.196-04:002011-06-18T08:58:02.196-04:00Ohh its really cool to have such amazing post Than...Ohh its really cool to have such amazing post Thanks and regards...subscriber management systemhttp://www.reliablesoft.co.in/Subscriber-Management-System.aspxnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15329973.post-49758482102682259522011-06-18T08:11:07.969-04:002011-06-18T08:11:07.969-04:00This was brilliant the first time round too.

I think you make wonderful points posting them together is genius.
When I was very little still... maybe three, my dad took me with him to a hardware store. I noticed a black man for the first time. I tugged at my dad's pant leg and said
"Daddy, that man forgot to wash his hands and face. His mama is gonna be mad." To his credit, that nice man laughed, came over and let me touch his hand, explaining that was the color of his skin. I made a new friend, but I think my dad was mortified in the way that only parents can be.silly rabbithttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01313221194740196751noreply@blogger.com
