My Fathers Day Column In The Boston Herald

If you'd be kind enough to journey to the Boston Herald website, you'll be able to read my Fathers Day column.

Please read it HERE.

It concerns My Dad, of course.

Blurry, but one of my favorite photos of us together. This was in Hong Kong, 35 years ago.

Thanks for reading it (if you do) and extra-special thanks if you leave a nice comment at the website or write a nice letter to the editor.

Last, but certainly not least, a Very Happy Fathers Day to those for whom it applies!

Soon, with more better stuff.

  1. I miss my dad too. He died in his 96th year in 1977, that would make him 132 today. A lovely man. Just like your lovely dad.

  3. Sorry, silly Blogger posted my comment twice for some unknown reason. Hence the deletion.

  4. I left my comment at the Herald.

Only I didn't mention that I have my own Fathers Day blog post.

  5. A wonderful column, Jim. I don't know when I first formed the habit, but whenever I talk to Jen or one of the kids, I always make sure to tell them that I love them. Even if their response is 'Bullshit!' (which it has been, once or twice). . .

It's coming up on three years now, since my dad died, at 89. The raw sense of, 'Dear God, I miss him' has mostly, by now, passed into gratitude for him having been my dad, and for having known and benefitted from knowing him for as long as I did. I don't know if I'll be around into my own kids' 50s or not (to be sure, I'd love to), but it was a great gift to me that my dad was. . .

  9. My dad died before my brain was fully cooked to the point where I knew how much his presence meant to my life. So I will write here what I posted on your published column:

Now that I'm in my 60's, we all share regrets of what we could have/should have said to our fathers. You got to say "I LOVE YOU". That's HUGE.
