Deja Vu?

Today, my contribution to the culture is a slightly longer form - with edits - of something those of you who follow me on Facebook may have seen a couple of years ago. As is generally the case these days, you'll need to travel to the Boston Herald to see it.

I was going through some older writings, looking for something I might be able to shine up and sell, and I came upon the piece. It was about half the length, back then, as what you'll find at the Herald today. I like to think it now contains a couple more laughs, too. Anyway, if it sounds somewhat familiar? That's because, like I said, some of it was part of a Facebook post of mine a while back.

What this amounts to is that you came here with good intentions and now I'm sending you to the Herald to read something you may have (partially) read on Facebook already.

Yes, I have my nerve.

As always, though, I truly do appreciate you stopping by and you're definitely invited to the after-party when I cop a Pulitzer sometime around 2023. There will be free pork egg foo yung for those able to show an actual hard copy of today's Herald. For those unable to prove they actually bought the paper, there will be a consolation dinner of canned cocktail weinies.

If you enjoy the piece, please share it on Facebook or Twitter or Linked-In or...

(When you read the piece, you'll understand I'm being a hideous hypocrite by asking you to do that. Or I'm just joking. I suppose you'll decide which it is depending upon how much you like the piece.)

Soon, with more better stuff.

Based on my failure to repost, it is clear that I do not hate cancer.

Ah, the "like and share" request. I've probably had hundreds of them. I think my FB friends feel it necessary to post something every single day (and SOME of you post 3 or 4 times per day ~ you know who you are) and so we get these requests. I fell for it once. It turned out to be awful, and some of my other FB friends were freaked out. So, I don't ever repost upon request anymore ~ unless it's a cat being a jerk.

I "like" the post if I agree with what it says, I never share them. I think they are stupid and if you really want to say something about that "cause" use your own words.

I feel like any time someone asks to repost they are just looking for attention. That goes with everything I see on Facebook. If it's a picture saying they are a vet that thinks no one cares, I just assume it's an old guy looking for attention. If it's true, it's sad. If it's an attention getter, you didn't fool me. Either way, you're not getting a repost from me.

Joe - I actually had a line similar to that in my original, before I sat down and edited it. I dropped it partly because of word limits and partly because it's so hard to say something like that and not sound like a total a-hole. The way you phrased it works much better than the way I had phrased it.

IACW - Cats being jerks are always worth sharing. I love cats videos.

Jeff - I think many (if not most) of these "Please Share" memes are started by Facebook just to increase traffic and, thus, ad views.

Mimi = Well, we miss you there...

This thing

I don't know if the link worked this time, but every time I see a 'like and share if you', that's what I think of.

Oh. And I do NOT WANT to play BINGO or any other damn games, either.

I'm glad I got this off my chest.

Ami - Well, I'm glad you did, too. And the link is hilarious.

I have reached a point where I seldom click links to posts, let alone copy and paste, unless I am 99% into whatever the subject is.
