March Madness

Do you like March Madness? Or do you hate it with a passion?

An affirmative answer to one of those means you will be happy to read my column in today's Boston Herald.

(Of course, a negative answer means you'll have to pretend to be happy with what I wrote, which I know you'll do because you're a very nice person.)

Anyway, you shouldn't allow yourself to be kept in suspense any longer. Go to the Herald website and read what I have to say. If you share my opinion, you could leave a comment over there telling the editor what a swell fellow I am.

(If you hate what I have to say, but still like me anyway, be very quiet. I'll make it up to you someday.)

As always, if you take the time to buy an actual physical copy of the paper, it will serve as your admission to my Pulitzer party when I get the award sometime in, say, 2024. Take advantage of the opportunity; there'll be a make-your-own ice cream sundae station!

Thanks for reading, and thanks for reading.

Soon, with more better stuff.

I have to disagree this time, I kind of like MM. I can not even watch college basketball, but they do hook me with MM. Not as much as when I was in on an office pool, which I never ever got close to winning, but hell after the Superbowl there is a vast wasteland of sports crap. So after figure skating and meaningless hockey and basketball games I do like MM.

The only time I can be persuaded to watch basketball is when the Spurs play....but I agree that MM is a total waste of time for me. I tried to leave a comment, but will not do it through Facebook. That's just silly.
Love ya!

Joe - Everybody is entitled to his or her opinion. I like you, anyway!

Crazy - Thanks! Yes, the commenting system is a pain these days.

I usually watch towards the end, but after hearing Dick Vitale last night practically having a heart attack trying to get me interested (baby), maybe I will watch a bit more.

I agree with everything you say but I could still take it if the play were more exciting. It has got to be extremely boring and is dominated too much by the coaches.

Well, I'll respectfully disagree with you on this one. . . Perhaps because My Spartans are on an 18-year run of participation in the Madness, or perhaps because they've won a pair of championships in my adult lifetime.

But I also love the early-round upsets and Cinderella stories as much as anything else (and just for the sake of saying so, my Spartans have come the closest to losing in the first round of any #1 seed in history, when Murray St. took us to overtime in 1990).

Even so, the champion is virtually always one of the 'elite' teams, anyway; successfully navigating the six-game gauntlet requires a level of perseverance and toughness that marks the winner as a champion, regardless. . .

And hey, you say '69' like it's a bad thing. . .

;)

Sorry that i'm not on Facebook, so i can't comment there any more.

While i'm a fan of specific teams, i'm not a fan of any specific sport, if that makes sense, so MM doesn't phase me.

It does seem a poor way to choose a champion, as any team can have an off game, even the best. Needing to lose two to be counted out seems a better way to do it.

Beryl - The day I find Dick Vitale palatable is the day someone should shoot me.

Yogi - I should note that I don't hate basketball (I suppose that point was made in the column, when I said the Celtics were my favorite team.) It's just college basketball that I sometimes find very annoying. The coaches are a huge part of that.

Craig - As I said: If you like it, more power to you. And you're right - "69" did not deserve my scorn.

Mimi - Yeah, that's the main thing that bugs me. One off night can kill the actual best team in the tournament. That bothers me.

All I have to say is Congratulations on getting another long well written article in the BH, but I can't comment on the content as I know nothing about basketball and the way the champion team is chosen. It's not that I don't like sports, I do. But I just don't know basketball. Now, I'd love to see you write a column about cricket....

I am totally indifferent to March Madness. However, I am very impressed with the frequency of your columns in the Boston Herald. I bet you become a permanent fixture there before too long! (Or are you already??)

Barbara - I can only hope. I mean, I appear there semi-regularly, but it's still catch-as-catch-can. They haven't signed me to anything.

Well, I think your article is very good but you know what I'm like as regards sport. Don't know much about it.
Not sure what your March madness is..........(relating to sport)
Over here it means wild hares boxing! Nothing relating to sport!!!!!!

Absolutely hate it with a passion. It seems to never end! But my husband loves it so a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do.
Off to read the Boston Herald.
