Me, Again, But...

So, I've been giving you a blow-by-blow of my successes in gaining publication. Here's a recap of recent events.

I have a piece in the latest issue of Funny Times.

I had a column in Saturday's Boston Herald.

Here's where you can find some more of me: The M Street Softball League website.

This last isn't something I wrote for pay. It was a labor of love. And I can understand if some of you don't give a rat's ass. Fast-pitch softball, played by men, isn't everyone's cup of tea. So, go read it if you want to, but if you want something else to do, instead, here's something that MY WIFE and I both have found highly entertaining. It is the Abbey Road crossing cam.

You all remember the iconic album cover by The Beatles, right?

Well, if you go HERE, you'll find a live camera trained on that road crossing, 24/7. And, if you have the patience to wait a minute or two (possibly less) you'll see all manner of idiots walking into the middle of this busy street and trying to replicate that photo in one way or another.

We think it's hilarious, especially when one of the dopes finishes posing, forgets that it's a live street crossing, and almost gets run over by a lorry.

And, if that doesn't float your boat, how about some Canadian gangsta rap?

My friend, Sean Flaherty, somehow stumbled onto this. Sean is oddly constructed mentally (which is why we have been friends since high school) and he likes to explore the weirder things in life. He decided to go to You Tube and put in the words "Canadian Gangsta Rap", just to see if anything at all came up. He found out there was a Canadian gangsta rap subculture of sorts. Who knew? Personally, one dose of that will last me about two lifetimes, but if you don't like fast-pitch softball or The Beatles, maybe it's just what you need.

Soon, with more better stuff.

I've got a great picture of my two younger sons doing the 'Beatles thing' ! If you are there you gotta do it! Congratulations on your successful publishing. You are a great writer and the world needs to know your like! xo

Thanks a bunch! I've just wasted 15 minutes watching people do stupid things on that crossing. But they did jump when a police car came along with blues and twos going!

The very good Boston Herald piece struck close home, for sure. Recently a young woman on the bus tried to offer ME her seat. And I"m not much older than you, at 57.

Retailers, restaurants, and movie theaters aren't yet mistaking me for a senior citizen, though. Drat the luck.

Congrats on all the publishing endeavors!

Weird how the street lane lines are all in a strange pattern. They aren't straight in that picture angle. I wonder why?

Holy cow, Sul! Congratulations on the publishings!

Michelle, the zig-zag lines are to indicate the approach to a zebra crossing. No parking, no overtaking.

There are zebras in London?
How do they know to cross the street there?

Are you getting a commission on the subscription orders for Funny Times?
If not, you might want to negotiate that into your contract.

You know I'm not a sports fan, so thanks for the Beatles cam link... going there now. Have a great day, Jim!

We have pelican crossings as well. They are much harder to train than zebras but easier than the moose you have which never seem to know to cross the road.

And i'm hoping for 5 games, too -- more to read about.

The Beatles link is fun ~ I plan to try it again tomorrow when it won't be 1:45 in the morning.....although there is more activity than I thought!

Okay... zebra. I'll buy that.

I have friends in London, and a standing promise that, if/when I visit, I WILL get my photo taken crossing Abbey Road. 4M was in London a year ago, and got his picture taken there. . .

I'm told the locals are very cheerfully indulgent of their American cousins' obsessions. . .

Will you still talk to us plebeians when you're rich and famous?

Suldog said...

I will not only talk to you, I will have ALL of you to my place for a party. Of course, that entails a level of "rich" that may not be gained by me until I'm too old and demented to remember promises such as these.

It's amazing what people will do with oncoming traffic! Ha. The Abbey Road cam is a hoot.

I'd join you in mocking the Abbey Road folks, but the thing is, if I ever go there I'm totally posing for a similar picture. The same goes for if I ever travel to Philly again, because I'm definitely gonna get a "Rocky" shot on the steps of the library.

Okay, you've had me spending way too much time thinking about this. But here's a pretty interesting scenario. Suppose Lennon and McCartney (or more likely, McCartney and Starr) decided to see just how much mayhem they could cause with that whole "Beatlemania" thing. Maybe they KNEW fans would eternally replicate any album cover they decided to come up with. Imagine this conversation:

Paul: Bloody crazy what's going on with the fans, eh Ringo?
Ringo: No kidding, Paul. Anything we do, they copy. Haircuts, outfits, you name it.
Paul: Bloody fools would probably pose just like us on album covers too. What if we called our next album "The Mountaintop" and posed on the top of Everest. Love to see the fans try that one.
Ringo: Hilarious! Or get this one . . . name an album "Abbey Road" and then take a picture of us all right smack in the middle of the crosswalk! Then watch as those Beatlemaniacs try to dodge traffic as they pose for their scrapbook photos. Simply mad!

OMG I never knew there was a cam there! If so perhaps you will sometimes glimpse us stopping in the car.. We live really near this crossing and often have to drive down that road. If you run someone over on a zebra crossing in England it's automatically your fault, no excuses. So you approach the crossing, stop, and the tourist keeps standing on the edge of the pavement, laughing at how amusing they are being, not crossing but not NOT crossing either. Or maybe walking out a little way, waving at friends, stopping on the crossing, then the friends all walk out. Oh, it is so amusing and entertaining if you're sitting waiting, experiencing the humour for the 100th time.....

And well done on the publishings!!!!
