Ruby Starr & Grey Ghost

Yesterday, I went on and on about concerts I've attended. Good read if you're all out of Sominex. Anyway, one of the concerts I mentioned was one that featured a performer named Ruby Starr. I told you about how underrated she was, how she died young, and other sad stuff. What I should have done was give you an opportunity to listen to her.

Done.

Soon, But It Doesn't Get Much Better Than This.

Very nice take on one of my all-time favorite songs (but you knew it would be, right?)

Big pipes on that girl (almost as big as her hair ;) )

Nice one! Although her moves during the guitar playing seemed kinda... Woodstock-y/flower power/must be on some of the good stuff. Maybe it's just what she's wearing :)

Heh, heh. I've seen this somewhere before. I think it came up in an earlier back-and-forth around the time of the 15 recordings posts re: Black Oak Arkansas.

It was such a burnt-orange avocado decade, wunnit?

Michelle - No, they struck me that way, too. It's interesting because she was usually all out there shaking what she had for the paying customers, and in much more revealing attire. Think Tina Turner, maybe? In this, it was as though someone told her to cool the sexuality and just give them the voice. It works, but she was hot hot hot when I saw her live.

Ruby had QUITE the stage presence, didn't she? Great voice and an amazing (heh) rendition of one of my all-time favorite tunes. And that MANE! Zowie!

And speaking of the guitar solo, I think the spotlight guy must've been out on a smoke break, or somethin'. Poor lead guitarist is standin' there, struttin' his chops in the dark. . .

It was such a burnt-orange avocado decade... Spot-on, Cricket.

Thanks for the concert. I listened with my earphones and not seeing the video, since I'm at work and looking at something work-related on my monitor. I'm sorry I missed hearing more of her back then.

First time I've seen/heard her, Jim. I am very impressed with her voice and stage presence - a natural performer. She knows how to belt out a song and strut around the stage. I don't think she is known this side of the pond. Really enjoyed it ~ Eddie

She was fabulous and passed away too young for sure. What a loss!

sad when talent is cut short.

One of the best female vocalist, can't believe she wasn't known by more people, I rate her right of there with Joplin. She also had a great Las Vegas act, before she died.

I saw her in concert in my hometown, Elkhorn City, Kentucky when I was in junior high. She was AMAZING! Attended many concerts after that. It was my first and nothing ever compared.

This just became my all time favorite song, and I too, can't believe, I never heard her before. She is the Best bar none.
