THE BIG LIE

PLEASE SEE UPDATE AT END OF COLUMN.

DEATH

So, someone has died as the result of the criminal negligence involved in the biggest boondoggle in Massachusetts' political history (which covers one hell of a lot of ground.)

I heard someone connected with the state say, following the incident, that the tunnel was "structurally sound".

LIE. LIE. LIE.

A multi-ton piece of it fell and killed a woman. The state has work crews dismantling the roof of the tunnel even as I write. It is, therefore, not "structurally sound".

I'm ashamed to be from this state.

UPDATE: I just read the piece referenced by Friday18 in the comments section. You should, too. Here it is.

Oh. My. GOD. That is really damn scary! I hate tunnels ANYWAY! Yikes...

There are a number of other structures around town that are as "structurally sound" as that tunnel. Some of them just haven't fallen yet.

You might be interested in my post today, reflecting on some of the previous work this same contractor has performed.

Total utter scumbags. Why is it so hard to forgo profits for simple human safety?

I'm originally from New Jersey, so I have some idea of how this stuff happens. Just awful. The citizens of Boston should declare a one-day sickout, to show the government that this careless disregard for the people is unnacceptable.

It's not the first time a government program has killed an innocent person. It's far from the last.

It's just... eh. The politicos are all posturing in one way or another. I'm sure some are genuinely trying to rectify the many problems, but it's so hard to separate the posers from the truly concerned.
